The headline change is the foam. The Rise 2 uses a TPEE-based Dreamstrike+ that feels balanced and mildly bouncy — cushioned but structured, leaning firm — while the Rise 3 switches to a supercritical PEBA-based Dreamstrike+ that Adidas tunes about 20% softer and bouncier, and you feel it: the ride is livelier and more forgiving, and responsiveness climbs from 4/6 to 5/6. The second big change is what's underneath that foam. The Rise 2 carries composite Support Rods — plate-class stabilizing elements that add guidance and a bit of structure, giving it a stable-neutral character with a lightly guided toe-off. The Rise 3 drops the rods entirely: it's a pure neutral shoe with a broad, planted platform, so all of its rebound now comes straight from the foam rather than from any embedded structure. Geometry shifts too — total stack is essentially unchanged (36 mm heel / 26 mm forefoot on the Rise 2 versus 35 mm / 27 mm on the Rise 3), but the drop drops from 10 mm to 8 mm, trading a touch of that traditional heel-strike bias for a slightly more natural roll-through. The Rise 3 is also a bit lighter, about 264 g versus 274 g in a men's US 9. Materials get a refresh as well: the Rise 2's engineered mesh gives way to a lighter, more breathable Primeweave woven upper with laser perforations over a Lighttraxion outsole. What doesn't change is the mission — both shine at 10K, half, and marathon distances, both top out usefully around 4:45 min/km, and both are workhorses rather than sprint tools.
